Terms of Use

Effective October 19, 2026

These terms cover the First Try Permit app and firsttrypermit.com. By using the app, you agree to them. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should review them with you.

1. What First Try Permit is

First Try Permit is a study tool for driver's permit knowledge tests. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any state DMV, motor vehicle agency or government body. The practice questions are written independently from each state's publicly available driver handbook. They are not the questions on your real test.

Traffic laws and tests change. We work to keep the content accurate, but it can contain mistakes or be out of date. Your state's official handbook and DMV website are the final word. Studying with the app does not guarantee you will pass, apart from the refund described in the Pass Guarantee below.

2. Using the app

3. Plans and payment

The diagnostic and the road-signs drill are free. Full access requires one of these plans, bought through Google Play:

Prices are in US dollars and may differ by country or include taxes. Google Play processes all payments under its own terms. You can cancel a subscription any time in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the period you've paid for.

Refunds are handled under Google Play's refund policy, plus our Pass Guarantee.

4. Pass Guarantee

If you study with First Try Permit and don't pass your state's written permit (knowledge) test, we'll refund your most recent payment. To claim it:

5. Our content

The questions, explanations, study plans and app design belong to First Try Permit. Road sign images are based on the federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and are in the public domain. State names and handbook titles belong to their respective agencies and are used only to describe which test the content covers.

6. Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we don't make promises about the app beyond what these terms say, including that it will be error-free or always available. Nothing in the app is legal advice or driving instruction. Always follow your state's laws and the instructions of your driving instructor and DMV.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, First Try Permit is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

8. Changes and ending

We may update the app and these terms. If we make significant changes, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app. You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it and cancelling any subscription in Google Play.
